Hello, and Welcome!

I'm Carol Ochs (<-like "Oaks"), the artist of Enchantasies.  Thanks very much for your interest in my art...I'm honored!  I'm a San Diego-based fantasy artist; I draw & paint a myriad of enchanted fantasy folk -- fairies, mermaids, witches, dragons and kindred kind.  I think of paintbrushes as magic wands; you just never know what will come flying out of them when wielded by an active imagination!

I like to celebrate that little witch in all of us!  My Enchantasies witch art strives to capture & express whimsical & romantic imagery of that spellbinding spark ...the spirited, mysterious nuance...or the magical attitude we recognize within ourselves ...or the enchanted person we perhaps WISH to be!  Enchantasies celebrates all that is "witch" and it's many moods & meanings!  If what I paint captures your fancy, I'm thrilled to have tickled a visual nerve for you and hope to gain your continued interest!

And I'm also a professional handcrafted herbal soapmaker.  I created this site you're now at, specifically for my witch art. I have three websites.  You can see all of my crafts/work by visiting them! Thanks for coming by!

ABOUT THE ARTIST (Longer Version) - <-CLICK LINK

(Because many people ask some usual, and not so usual questions, I've responded to and posted answers.)

You're welcome to come take a virtual (photo) tour of my soapmaking workshop and art studio to see where I work!

THE SOAP WORKSHOP(<-click)

Below is a photo-tour of my ......

ART STUDIO

I mostly work on art at night, faerie lights aglow, after my busy days in the workshop making soap.

I use a lot of different mediums, watercolor, acrylics, pastels, colored pencils, ink..... And I am an avid Amazon-junkie art book collector.  Some books, just for the pure pleasure of looking at, others for tutorial & reference examples. All have been my "Art School".

I love my old flip-top apothecary style art table to sit and swing my legs at while I work!  It can open up as big as I need and has lots of drawer space.  Many have asked where I got it...it was a limited time table offered through Staples.  They supposedly discontinued them, but you may get lucky and nab a remaining display model at a store near you.  PERFECT fold-out project workspace!

A constant breeze blows in my art studio window, flutters the curtains, and sets my imagination in-motion.  A giant lavender bush grows just outside, so the wind carries the heavenly, sweet herbal aroma!  The bed makes a perfect napping or daydreaming spot for coming up with new art ideas, and is usually occupied by my constant-companion, Miss Sophie Bella.  When the sun shines in just right, my sun-catchers and mirrored chimes send spews of dancing light orbs all over the room and gives the effect of faeries EVERYWHERE!  Sophie goes crazy trying to catch them all, hurling herself at the fast-moving lights upon the walls, silly kitty....hilarious!

The other "regular" art studio resident is Newman, a ball python snake we inherited from son Nick when he moved out.  Newman lives in the tank next to my computer, where I answer email and work on digital art. Sophie and Newman amuse themselves carrying on endless games of tag-between-the-glass, each striking the glass trying to *tag* the other.

So, THAT'S my Art Studio!

(But you surely don't need an art studio to do art!  When I was younger, a sketch pad in my lap, or any ol' table was my "studio"!)

When I need more inspiration, I often find it in my backyard gardens....where enchanted inhabitants often lurk & whisper!

My pals....Codie and Baylie, our female Golden Retrievers.  They, as well as our kitties, have a habit of following me wherever I go, so when I stand up in my studio after a work-session, I have to make sure I look where I'm going and pick my way over the bodies of critters laying everywhere!  In a dash, I've tripped and fallen flat on my face more times then I care to admit.  My "critter crew"!

"Newman"--- our Ball Python snake ...a.k.a. Leg-o-Less.

"Mocha", who goes by many names.....and answers to none

"Samantha"-- A most VOCAL kitty...and she has THUMBS!

And our newest family member, "Sophie Bella", who quite by magic and accident, pounced into our lives and who as you can see, happens to like dogs!

My human family.....
