Hi...I'm Carol Ochs (like "Oaks")! I think of paintbrushes as magic wands, and I enjoy celebrating that little witch in all of us ! I strive for my art to capture the spirited nuances of that spark of magic, ...that witch within, ...or the witch we perhaps WISH to be! My passion for the magical was no doubt ignited by a love of children's literature, fairy tales, and the beautiful illustrations within. I always adored witch stories, the T.V. show "Bewitched" and movies about witchcraft. Halloween has always been my favorite holiday and I can't remember a single one when I wasn't dressed-up, as I still do to this day, as a witch. My childhood was filled with fanciful imaginings....a childhood never quite left behind. I still feel and fancy the same magic I did as a child and pass it on to my own little witch!
ART BACKGROUND I am self-taught in art at what I call The Hard-Knock University of Practice. I prefer pen, ink, and watercolor. After establishing my first art website Wild Oaks Art, I was inspired one day to develop a venue specifically for my witchy endeavors. One day I conjured "enchanted" with "fantasies" ...and "Enchantasies" was born...a website for my witch art! INSPIRATION What inspires me? Most anything enchanted, mystical, romantic, beautiful, or that lurks behind trees. History and legend. Souls lost in fantasy or a dream-moment. Moods I see in others, lit by a feeling I relate to myself; being able to relate, is what makes me want to capture a vision and hold it in a painting. Forests or wild gardens are especially inspirational and make me feel electrifyingly alive in a sixth sense sort of way...it's where I feel most at-home, in my own garden or forests I visit. I also love animals and find them to be some of my best friends. My fascination with the realm of the witch over the years has brought me in attunement with, and to study what is oft referred to as Green Witchcraft or Wise Woman Ways, the study of plants, herbs, flowers, the natural world, and their power to heal and enhance our lives. I've employed much of this knowledge in another of my crafts, ...that of soapmaking (<--visit our website for artisan handmade herbal soaps!). It has also brought me into a more close connection with the glorious seasons and natural world all around us. It's inspired my appreciation for how the Ancients before us lived by the land and seasons. I also love to capture in paint, the free-spirited attitude of women who don't quite conform ....women people historically have referred to as "witches", simply for daring to question status quo or follow their own Earth-tied spirituality and Wise Woman ways. The magic, history, natural science, romance and enchantment of the witch realm is my playground! I hope to share it with you via my art! I entertain requests for commissioned artwork, so if you'd like to see yourself as a witch or other fantasy being....contact me, perhaps I can make your request come true! Thanks for your interest! You are also invited to visit and learn about our other crafts!
